Simon Olley is a self-taught potter and ceramic artist who is fascinated by the relationship between man and man’s best friend. His work combines illustration and sgraffito to depict and celebrate the exciting (sometimes imaginary) life of his own black Labrador. He also undertakes commissions worldwide often based on owners’ four-legged friends, their lives and loves. Other subjects of interest include sea and river life and flora. Much of Simon’s work is wheel-thrown high-fired earthenware. Each piece is slipped and illustrated with underglazes and oxides.
