Shirley Vauvelle is an established artist working from her studio in North Yorkshire. Nature fascinates her, the power and vulnerability of it. Her forms are hand built using stoneware clay slabs and carving the surface. Often using plant material within the surface of the clay, working from an emotional reaction to how nature makes her feel. Often there are stackable porcelain components as part of the forms, giving the opportunity within the sculpture, to play and alter compositions. Influenced initially by ancient talisman finds, in particular Inuit carvings.
