I like the suggestion of what might have once been; archaeological finds, remains and architectural features. Their contrast in materials, layers, texture, colour, hidden detail and surface quality are all important. The use of glazes and their actions upon the various clays, stains, oxides and slips are crucial to the final result.
This has led to tactile vessels in stoneware, paperclay and porcelain whose surfaces are an integral part of the final intention.
