My smoke-fired Nerikomi pieces are constantly evolving as I push the envelope to make larger and more complex shapes. I was once asked what five words describe the look of my work. I could only think of phrases, like worlds within worlds. My husband provided challenging, mysterious, timeless, unorthodox and delicate. A fellow potter provided engaging, sensual and organic.
I’m fascinated by the geometry in nature, especially as growth and random chaotic forces skew and distort the initial perfect symmetry. I’m constantly exploring these balances between symmetry and asymmetry, perfection and imperfection in my work.
