I make wheel-thrown, naked raku pieces. My egg-shell-like, smooth surfaces form a canvas for smoke markings, some of which are unpredictable and some deliberate.
Each piece is a one-off, a unique interplay between form and decoration.
I continue to be enthralled by the final stage of making: the emergence of the piece through the shedding of its ‘outer skin’ of glaze.
