I make wheel-thrown, naked raku pieces. I use the jade-like, smooth surfaces I create as a canvas for smoke markings, which are both random and deliberate.
Each piece is a one-off, a unique interplay between form and decoration. I continue to be enthralled by the final stage of making: the emergence of the piece through the shedding of its ‘outer skin’ of glaze.
The sensuality of my pots belies the process that has created them. They invite touch.
